As the company continues its growth in the New York metropolitan area, Wegmans Food Markets has announced it will open its first Long Island store in the community of Lake Grove, NY.
Wegmans has entered into an agreement to purchase 8.5 acres of the existing 28-acre DSW Plaza Shopping Center. Prestige Properties and Development will continue to own and operate the rest of the plaza, Wegmans indicated.
The company hasn’t yet released a timeline for the construction and opening of the Lake Grove store. Today, Wegmans operates 106 stores in seven of the United States from Massachusetts to North Carolina. New York metropolitan area stores include seven in northern and central New Jersey, one in Harrison, NY and one in Brooklyn. Wegmans has scheduled a new Manhattan store, currently under development, for an opening next year.
“We are delighted and proud Wegmans has chosen our DSW Plaza Shopping Center for their first location on Long Island,” said Sam Shalem chairman and CEO of Prestige Properties & Development, in announcing the new store. “Wegmans is a first-class asset and will be an incredible addition to Lake Grove and the surrounding communities. We look forward to partnering with Wegmans on this landmark location.”
