Wayfair announced in its third-annual Corporate Responsibility Report a commitment to achieving zero waste across its global operations by 2030.
Key report highlights, as stated by Wayfair:
- Establishment of the Wayfair Neighborhood Fund supporting people experiencing homelessness and ensuring that local neighborhoods thrive, with the founding donation amounting to $1 million.
- Volunteer participation in 25 Habitat for Humanity builds by Wayfair employees, helping to create new homes for those in need.
- Participation by 4,000 Wayfair staffers in Employee Resource Groups or Affinity Groups, celebrating shared cultures and experiences.
- Covering 66.5% of Wayfair’s electricity consumption in North America via contracted energy offtake from the company’s participation in the Liberty Solar virtual power purchase agreement.
- Doubling the number of Black-owned suppliers on the Wayfair platform through the Celebrate Black Makers program.
- Doubling the number of third-party certified products in Wayfair’s Shop Sustainability program to over 33,000.
The zero waste target aims to direct more than 90% of Wayfair’s operational waste away from landfills and incineration. Along with the company’s goal of Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction of 63% by 2035, the zero waste initiative underscores Wayfair’s dedication to drive climate action and more effectively reuse, recycle and reduce waste.
