Walmart suffered some disappointment when the company launched its paid membership program when consumers didn’t react as enthusiastically as hoped and have since determined to enhance its value with additional benefits including a broader fuel discount.
Walmart+ members also get five to 10 cents per gallon off at Walmart and Murphy USA stations depending on state regulations, the company pointed out. Walmart+ members also can get discounted pricing at more than 500 Sam’s Club locations.
Walmart emphasized that the extension of membership benefits at Exxon and Mobil stations is just one of several ways members can save money by signing up for the Plus program. Member benefits now include six months of Spotify Premium, as well as free grocery deliveries from Walmart stores, free shipping on Walmart.com with no order minimum and Scan & Go contactless checkout.
“Ninety-one percent of our customers are aware of the increased prices at the pump and nearly half of those told us they are changing behaviors because of them,” said Chris Cracchiolo, senior vp and general manager of Walmart+. “More access to a bigger discount will make a difference for our customers. We want Walmart+ to help our customers save time and money, not only when shopping with us, but throughout their day. We’re excited to continue to find new ways to deliver for them.”
