Walmart Engages Families with Valentine’s Day Initiative

Posted In: Retail Articles

According to market researcher Numerator, 64% of consumers plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day up four points from the year-earlier intention, and Walmart has gotten ready to meet the demand with its Love Central initiative.

Although most Valentine’s Day purchasing considerations focus on couples, Walmart is positioning itself as a prime resource for family celebrations where parents can extend the festivities to include children and other family members, including pets. So, a Love Central landing page online tops off the headings Gift Ideas, Kids’ Valentine’s, Stuffed Animals, Fashion, Baking and Candy.

The product assortment arranged as part of Love Central includes a variety of housewares appropriate to the occasion. For example, under Gift Ideas, consumers will find the MyMini Heart Waffle Maker, the Allswell Glow Vanilla + Pear + Coconut Scented 2-Wick 15-ounce Spa Jar Candle and the pink Yaya My First Travel Tumbler for Toddlers 3 Plus, among other items. Products under Baking include the Paris Hilton 12-piece Knife and Kitchen Utensil Set with Caddy in pink, the Wilton Heart Cookie Cutter Set with six pieces in pink and the Nordic Ware Elegant Heart Bundt pan. Walmart also incorporates a KitchenAid Deluxe 4.5-qt Stand Mixer in the Dried Rose color into the baking mix.

Numerator pointed out that 47% of Valentine’s celebrators plan for the holiday 1-2 weeks in advance. As for spending money, 96% of celebrators said they would purchase something for Valentine’s Day, with the top items being gifts at 55%, candy at 50% and food at 48%.

The market researcher added that 55% of celebrators plan to spend more than $50 on the holiday.
