In a commitment to its brick-and-mortar business, Walmart has announced that it is adding and updating more stores in the United States.
The first two new stores under this initiative, both Neighborhood Markets, will open in the spring in Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Atlanta, Furner pointed out. He added that Walmart is finalizing construction plans on 12 new projects it plans to start this year, along with converting one smaller location to a Walmart Supercenter.
New and remodeled stores will reflect Walmart’s store of the future format, featuring improved layouts, expanded product selections and innovative technology that can help employees serve customers better. Sustainability is designed into the new facilities, which incorporate, in two examples, more energy-efficient equipment and lighting and lower impact refrigerants.
The store initiative continues even as Walmart develops a coast-to-coast network of affordable, fast-charging electric vehicle stations. Furner noted that Walmart is installing the EV station to make electric vehicle ownership a more convenient and accessible choice for Walmart shoppers and staffers.
