Variety Wholesalers reported it will reopen 132 Big Lots stores in May after a January agreement kept the banner in operation.
Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September 2024. The May store reopening initiative follows on Variety Wholesalers striking a last ditch deal that gave it control of 219 Big Lots locations. The company began reopening Big Lots stores in April at nine locations in the southern United States.
The Big Lots stores slated to reopen in May will do so in two phases, the first on May 1 and the second on May 15. The stores include locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
“We’re excited to bring an additional 132 Big Lots locations back to life in May,” said Lisa Seigies, Variety Wholesalers president and CEO. “The customer response to the newly expanded assortment of fresh inventory and great deals has been overwhelmingly positive. The Big Lots stores opening in May show our continued commitment to providing the best value to our customers with apparel for the family, everyday needs for the home, kitchen, and pantry plus a huge selection of famous brands.”
