Qurate Retail’s Zulily banner has developed a beta test of a subscription business model that addresses teachers and their needs.
The new Zulily Teacher Program provides teachers with a free three-month subscription, giving them 10% off every order for 90 days after verifying their teacher status. Teachers complete an online form to qualify.
Zulily uses SheerID, a third-party platform that verifies association with specialized segments, to confirm teacher status within seconds. Once verified, Zulily automatically enrolls customers in the program and provides the 10% discount whenever at checkout through the 90-day period. Teachers can enroll in the program via zulily.com/lp/teachers through September 15. Consumers who currently work as a teacher, faculty member or staffer at a K-12 school or university in the United States qualify for the offer.
Of course, after testing, Zulily can apply the subscription model it’s developing to everyone or anyone it targets, an effort that could provide insights for Qurate’s other banners, QVC, HSN and Cornerstone if they chose to explore similar initiatives.
“We are testing the Zulily Teacher Program to adapt to evolving consumer demand and enable teachers to get the maximum value for every dollar they spend on classroom and personal needs as they prepare to go back to school,” said Kiran Akkineni, Zulily svp and chief marketing officer, in announcing the teacher program. “By testing this new innovation, we can better understand our customers who are teachers and enable further innovation based on their needs and requirements.”
