Walmart is partnering with SideChef to release five “shoppable” recipes designed to make its stores one-stop shops for easy home-cooked meals.
As consumers cope with the winddown of the COVID-19 pandemic and back-to-school season, SideChef observed, time is a commodity subject to pressure. The partnership is a deal to help make home meal prep faster and easier. Walmart already has focused on saving customers meal-related time, which was a major force behind its curbside pickup initiative. Now, with the SideChef deal, the retailer is helping shoppers save time when they get home. The result isn’t just of benefit to consumers who take advantage of the service but also housewares vendors whose products help with meal prep, presentation and storage.
SideChef stated that its shoppable technology integration allows consumers to purchase recipe ingredients directly from Walmart, making meal planning convenient and easy. Consumers only need to select a SideChef recipe, add the ingredients list to cart, and choose curbside pickup or delivery to complete the transaction. Shoppers can choose from more than 3,000 Walmart stores across the United States offering grocery delivery or curbside pickup to grab their ingredients, SideChef pointed out.
Ordering features in the SideChef app include:
- Real-time prices and availability. Consumers won’t suffer surprises or disappointments at checkout as they can see which ingredients are carried by a preferred Walmart store.
- Plan for leftovers. Shoppers can see how much of each product is used in a selected recipe, helping them consider future meals ahead of time.
- Buy only what’s necessary. Any given shopping occasion might not require a meal element such as salt or pepper but they are easy additions when needed.
- Swap items and adjust serving sizes. Choose different brands or package sizes as preferred and expand orders beyond the meal basics.
The app is a free download and easy to use, SideChef indicated, so consumers can just set up a profile to begin shopping. Walmart+ members can set up SideChef orders free of charge, otherwise, a $35 dollar minimum on shoppable recipes applies. To kick off the partnership, SideChef is offering $10 off a $50 Walmart order.
“We are thrilled to see this partnership with Walmart come to life,” Kevin Yu, SideChef founder and CEO, said in announcing Walmart the deal. “At SideChef we are determined to provide the most efficient, stress-free cooking experience for our users. By integrating our shoppable technology with Walmart’s supply, we are able to provide customers with a seamless recipe-to-grocery solution—all in the palm of their hands.”
