A delivery business has launched its own back-to-school promotion as Target-owned Shipt is encouraging consumer spending for the season.
The same-day delivery company, describing itself further as a “shopping accomplice,” has released the Ultimate School Shopping Guide, which was developed to help parents, teachers and college students consider what to buy ahead of their return to school. Shipt surveyed parents, caregivers, teachers and college students to get a read on must-have school supplies for back-to-school preparation, the company stated. Rooted in proprietary Shipt data as well as insights from the survey, the guide is a shoppable menu of school essentials to assist consumers through back to school, the company noted. Shipt offers the guide on its app.
On its website, Shipt opens with a back-to-school pitch. The landing page leads with, “Same-day delivery for school days ahead. Get contactless delivery on suppliers, weeknight meals and more from local stores.”
According to Shipt research, July is the most popular time to begin school shopping, according to teachers, at 50%, as well as parents and caregivers, at 37%. Among the survey findings, backpacks are, as might be assumed, among the most sought back-to-school items, with 84% of parents purchasing a new backpack every year. At the same time, 41% of parents claim they buy just five to 15 pens or pencils for the year even though 52% claim their children run out of them fastest among their school supplies. Further, 28% of parents report purchasing school snacks and lunch supplies on a daily basis. At the higher education level, 59% of college students stated they would use photos to decorate their rooms with 58% considering store-purchased art. Among the must-haves college students need, Shipt indicated, are microwaves, bedding sets with pillows, towels and lamps.
In the promotion, Shipt is spotlighting brand ambassador and mother of two, actor Kristen Bell, to offer her expertise in back-to-school preparation.
“Back to school season is incredibly exciting, new school supplies, new teachers and new routines, but can also feel overwhelming and stressful with all that’s needed to prepare and purchase,” said Rina Hurst, Shipt chief business officer, in announcing the promotion. “After a summer of free time and fun activities, it’s difficult to get back into the mindset of the school season, which is why Shipt is taking the guesswork out of back-to-school shopping this year. Our Ultimate School Shopping Guide makes back-to-school shopping easy by sharing insights from parents, teachers and students around the country on what products you really need to purchase this year, and where you can save your budget. With just a few, easy steps, you can have your entire Ultimate School Shopping Guide delivered right to your door so you can focus on getting organized and ready for the busy year ahead.”
