As it rebounds from store closings associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Ross Stores has announced that it opened 22 namesake and eight dd’s DISCOUNTS stores across 11 different states in June and July.
The new stores are part of the company’s plans to add approximately 60 new stores — 40 namesakes and 20 dd’s — during fiscal 2021, it stated.
Together, the company operates a total of 1,896 Ross Dress for Less and dd’s DISCOUNTS locations in 40 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam.
“These recent openings reflect our ongoing commitment to expanding our two chains,” said Gregg McGillis, Ross group executive vp/property development, in announcing the store openings. “This summer, we expanded our presence in our largest markets of California, Florida and Texas, and also added locations in newer states, including Illinois for dd’s as well as Ohio and West Virginia for Ross. Looking ahead, we remain confident in our ability to grow to at least 2,400 Ross Dress for Less and 600 dd’s DISCOUNTS locations over time.”
According to traffic tracker Placer.ai, Ross second quarter in-store shopper visits increased 25.5% from the first quarter of 2021 and 217.4% from the coronavirus-impaired second quarter of 2020. Visits increased 1.2% versus the second quarter of 2019.
