As part of an ongoing geographic expansion, Florida-based Publix opened the company’s first store in Kentucky, its eighth state of operation.
The Louisville supermarket covers 55,701 square feet with a drive-thru Publix Pharmacy and an adjacent 3,200-square-foot Publix Liquors, the company stated. Publix designed the store with a significant take-out/foodservice offering to drive store traffic by making Publix a destination during mealtimes, the company stated.
Publix CEO Kevin Murphy said, “We look forward to introducing Kentucky customers to our premier service and delivering on our promise to be a place ‘where shopping is a pleasure.’”
In 2017, Publix opened its first store in Virginia, its seventh state of operation, where it currently runs about 20 supermarkets.
