In research recently commissioned by Ollie’s and conducted by Talker Research, 22% of consumers said they could maintain the good feeling a bargain provides for at least four hours. For a lucky 10%, the joy of finding a bargain lasts all day, according to Ollie’s.
Good feelings can translate into good word of mouth and good social media. In response to the survey underlying the study, the company noted, 59% of consumers said they will brag about deals discovered, with 51% doing so to friends, 40% to partners and 27% to extended family members.
When they start shopping, 48% of respondents said they have a plan in mind and stick to it, while 20% prefer to wing it entirely, according to the Ollie’s study. On average, the survey indicated, shoppers leave 14 extra minutes just to browse and soak in the surroundings when they shop. Consumers generally shop with confidence, given that 54% of respondents regard themselves as the best bargain hunters they know, up from 34% in a similar survey conducted last year.
Shoppers need to save an average of 36% on an item for it to feel worth the bargain hunting, Ollie’s noted, and 20% of shoppers hold out for at least half off on an item. In a market environment hit by inflation, 82% of consumers are hunting for deals more frequently to stretch their dollars further, the company reported.
“Ollie’s is all about the thrill of bargain hunting,” said John Swygert, Ollie’s CEO. “We know that finding a great deal can be fun and exciting, and we love being a part of that experience for our customers. It’s even better when they share the deals they find with friends and family, spreading the joy of bargains even further.”
