According to market researcher Numerator, 79% of consumers in the United States plan to celebrate Father’s Day, good news for those producing products for outdoor dining and backyard recreation.
Father’s Day is often an opportunity for those who sell food- and drink-related items.
In a survey of some 2,650 consumers, grilling/barbecuing was the top choice of Father’s Day celebrators, cited by 42%, followed by cooking/baking, at 34% and going out for food/drinks, at 27%. Some 51% of dads and father figures said they would like to celebrate by spending quality time with family, and 46% said they would like to share a meal.
Top items on Father’s Day shopping lists include food, which 64% of celebrators plan to purchase; gifts, at 57%; alcoholic beverages, at 27%; and non-alcoholic beverages, at 17%. Among those intending to purchase gifts, top choices are a gift card, at 35%; apparel, at 32%; and tools or home improvement materials, at 27%. Those planning to buy alcohol for Father’s Day cited beer as their top choice, at 61%, followed by, spirits, at 37%, and wine, at 33%.
Economic uncertainty being what it is these days, 32% of Father’s Day celebrators expect inflation to impact their holiday plans. To save money, they will buy items on sale, cited by 42%; use more coupons, cited by 23%; and prepare budget-friendly foods, cited by 22%.
