In a new approach to its household product assortment, Newegg Commerce is employing artificial intelligence to develop its newly launched Home Showcase, an interactive online shopping experience for home products.
The Home Showcase as it appears on newegg.com is a different way to browse and shop on Newegg. The showcase’s user interface is depicted as a two-story house, complete with eight clickable room icons that connect to selections of office, kitchen, living room, bathroom, gaming room, bedroom, garage and yard products.
Shoppers just click a room icon to open up a curated list of recommended products commonly used in that specific area with top brands, inviting deals and room-specific inspirational photos included. So, clicking the kitchen icon may show appliances such as cooktop burners, tortilla makers and pressure cookers. The backyard, which covers all outdoors, connects with outdoor heaters, security cameras, bikes, scooters and wearables.
Newegg used Stable Diffusion AI to improve product photos and illustrate features for customers, and ChatGPT to generate succinct informative product descriptions and text on abbreviated quick view pages, the company noted. Home Showcase is available now on newegg.com for desktop and laptop computers with a mobile version slated for introduction later this month.
“Homeowners often consider products’ utility based on the area of the home where products are used. We’re simplifying the shopping process by creating a useful tool to help customers peruse products that may improve their lives at home,” said Lucy Huo, Newegg vp of application development.
