Newegg Commerce has expanded on its use of consumer-facing AI by launching summarized customer reviews generated via artificial intelligence.
Until now, many shoppers relied on average product ratings to gauge customer sentiment. The new review summaries Newegg provides offer an alternative. After analyzing all reviews on a product, the AI function extracts key terms and phrases to generate concise synopsis, which Newegg dubbed Review Bytes. They highlight product owners’ likes and dislikes about a product, enhancing shopper understanding of key product particulars without having to read the actual reviews. However, if they click on product Review Byte, shoppers get access to the full reviews listing from which the information originated if they wish to do further research. Additionally, a comprehensive paragraph summary, called SummaryAI, provides further insights into multiple customers’ opinions with excerpts to elaborate on key points.
Review summary features currently operate only on Newegg’s desktop website for products with a minimum number of reviews. To maintain transparency and build trust, ChatGPT-generated content is distinctly labeled by Newegg, ensuring shoppers understand summary creation and how to access the original product reviews.
Newegg emphasized that it is committed to enhancing the customer experience through generative AI. The company is investing in new AI projects and expanding existing ones to support consumers as they make shopping decisions and manufacturers as they explore potential product improvement opportunities.
“With Newegg’s deep commitment to leveraging generative AI to improve the customer experience, offering ChatGPT-powered customer review summaries is the latest addition to our cutting-edge AI toolset,” said Andrew Choi, Newegg director of brand and website experience, in announcing the new review feature. “The process of analyzing relevant information to make a purchase decision can be arduous. Viewing valuable customer feedback efficiently should remove some of the friction that shoppers encounter.”
