Macy’s will expand the number of Backstage shops offered in its department stores from April through June with 37 new off-price operations set to debut.
In its expansion, Macy’s Backstage has reached almost 300 in-store and stand-alone operations across the United States, the company noted. Macy’s intends to open one of the newest Backstage shops inside its State Street flagship store in Chicago on April 9. The company plans to open a Backstage shop in its New York City flagship store, Herald Square, in May.
The in-store expansion is just one way Macy’s is building its small-format operations as it takes fresh approaches to the broad sweep of potential customers.
The company accelerated its off-mall, small-format expansion last year with two new free-standing Backstage locations in Dallas and three Market by Macy’s locations in Dallas and Atlanta. The company noted that it plans to open additional off-mall locations throughout 2022.
