As it reshapes its store portfolio, Macy’s is closing five more of its full-line department stores across the United States.
In response to a HomePage News inquiry, a company spokesperson replied the company would close full-line locations located in Tallahassee, FL, Arlington, VA, San Leandro, CA, Simi Valley, CA and Lihue, HI.
The spokesperson also noted the following:
As we continue to reposition our store portfolio and evaluate the right mix of on- and off-mall locations, in 2024, we intend to close five Macy’s full-line locations. As a company, we are committed to offering impacted colleagues a role in nearby locations or severance packages.
Macy’s continues to meet our customers however they choose to shop, through a combination of physical stores in the best malls, smaller-format and off-price stores, and a premier digital shopping experience. In October, we announced plans to accelerate the expansion of our Macy’s small format stores, opening up to 30 additional locations through 2025. We are actively exploring new locations to bring our Macy’s small format stores closer to existing and desired customers and will share additional locations once we are able.
