JCPenney reported it has been doing research ahead of the holidays and plans to provide an abundance of products with a focus on value in gift-giving and hosting.
The company surveyed U.S. shoppers for its inaugural Make it Count Holiday Report, which indicated that despite rising costs, consumers aren’t skimping on entertaining for this year’s holidays. Rather, they’re less likely to cut back on gatherings-related spending than spending on gifts or style, with 52% planning to spend more than $300 on holiday hosting.
At the same time, according to the report, 51% of consumers are stressed about finding the right gifts to give. As they cope with uncertainty, holiday and economic, 55% of consumers are prioritizing practical gifts that recipients can use frequently and say they’d like to receive the same, according to JCPenney. The retailer pointed out it will offer savings on daily, useful products across merchandise categories from home appliances to apparel.
Further, JCPenney maintained it had examined hundreds of its most popular products and committed to holding most of them to the same price as last year, even lower in some cases. It also will hold a broad selection of gifting favorites across major categories at 2019 pre-inflation prices. In addition, the company noted, it will stock more than 1,000 gifts under $15.
JCPenney will hold multiple holiday sales events:
- Black Friday Early Access, November 3-5
- Ready, Set, Holidays, Prep!, November 6-16

In November, JCPenney will introduce the Penney Prepper Challenge, encouraging consumers to entertain in the season for $300 or less. Social users can vote on the top #PenneyPrepperChallenge hosting displays, which the company intends to offer as home-hosting inspiration. Tia Mowry, actress and creator of at-home recipes, will share her hosting takes and favorite picks for the challenge, including tablescape décor, festive statement pieces and small appliances, JCPenney indicated.
“As families gather and find joy in festivities and giving, JCPenney is helping them make every moment count without having to choose between style, quality and value,” said JCPenney Katie Mullen, chief customer officer. “This time of year, though joyful, can also be financially challenging for many. We’re here to offer beloved brands, iconic deals, a rewarding shopping experience and in-store services that make the season merry and bright without breaking the bank.”
