JCPenney has opened a new store in New Jersey after announcing a massive reinvestment program last year.
The latest JC Penney store is at Willowbrook Mall in the town of Wayne, NJ. Other anchor retailers operating in the mall are Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and BJ’s Wholesale Club. According to the Bergen Record, a former JC Penney store from the Wayne Towne Center was moved by the department store retailer to what had been a Lord & Taylor anchor in the Willowbrook Mall.
In August 2023, JCPenney announced it would initiate a $1 billion self-funded reinvestment plan intended to drive long-term growth, boost customer loyalty and increase shopping frequency. The company stated it would have the money invested by the end of the 2025 fiscal year.
In November, Katie Mullen, JCPenney chief customer officer, told HomePage News the investment would enhance customer engagement and experience, as well as reconfigure the home business as a vital broad, curated business element in stores and online after previous management had deemphasized housewares operations.
JCPenney, at press time, did not respond to an inquiry about the new store by HomePage News.
