In moves to boost its digital operation, JCPenney announced that it has appointed Sharmeelee Bala to the post of chief information officer and Katie Mullen to the post of chief digital and transformation officer.
Mullen will supervise the growth of the e-commerce operation, including jcp.com, the retailer reimagines how consumers experience the operation no matter when, where, and how they want to shop, JCPenney stated. Mullen also becomes responsible for driving enterprise strategy and the company’s transformation agenda.
Bala had been with Gap Inc. most recently serving as the head of product engineering. She also spent 20 years with Walmart in a number of technology and executive roles of increasing responsibility, according to JCPenney. Mullen spent almost three years with Neiman Marcus Group before joining JCPenney, serving as chief transformation officer and then chief digital officer.
“With a strong balance sheet and unique products and services backed by our iconic American brand, JCPenney is a destination for best-in-class talent like Sharmeelee and Katie,” said Marc Rosen, the retailer’s CEO, said in announcing the appointments. “Sharmeelee and Katie will be invaluable partners as we move forward with our digital journey and transform the business through technology and innovation.”
