Japan’s Daiso Pushes U.S. Store Expansion with 10 New Locations

Posted In: Retail Articles

In an ongoing expansion across the United States, Japan-based value retailer Daiso is starting off the new year by opening 10 locations.

Four California locations will open on January 4: Santa Maria, Foster City, Apple Valley and Riverside. The retailer will open three additional California locations, in Calexico, Corona, and Lemon Grove, on January 11. On the same date, it will debut its first New Mexico store in Sante Fe and add additional locations in Katy, TX, and Olympia, WA.

Daiso stores are compact, with the Olympia store coming in at 8,753 square feet, and they feature value-oriented product assortments that span multiple categories, including Japanese-inspired home decor and kitchenware, as well as beauty products, stationery and snacks.

Daiso operates a U.S. headquarters in Anaheim, CA. It ended 2024 with 167 U.S. stores across eight states, with most operating across the western U.S. and several welcoming guests in New York and New Jersey. The Daiso expansion is consistent with the growth of Asia-based retailers, especially those based in China, including Shein and Miniso, not to mention Temu.
