In a new service for homeowners and perk for the retailer’s loyalty program, Ikea U.S. is partnering with SunPower Corp., a residential solar technology and energy services provider to make solar power easier to access.
In addition to sustainability initiatives within the organization, such as its operation of wind, solar and geothermal energy operations, Ikea has been establishing more eco-friendly initiatives involving customers and, more particularly, loyalty program members. It recently launched a Buy Back & Resell program in 37 store locations across the United States. The service gives loyalty program members the chance to sell back their gently used Ikea furniture in exchange for store credit. So program participants can give their furniture a second life through resale in the store’s As-Is section, providing an affordable option for many people that advances sustainability at the same time.
“At Ikea, we’re passionate about helping our customers live a more sustainable life at home,” said Javier Quiñones, Ikea CEO and chief sustainability officer. “We’re proud to collaborate with SunPower to bring this service to the U.S. and enable our customers to make individual choices aimed at reducing their overall climate footprint. The launch of Home Solar with Ikea will allow more people to take greater control of their energy needs, and our goal is to offer the clean energy service at additional Ikea locations in the future.”
