HomeGoods is putting a star atop its holiday promotional strategy by partnering with actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth to inspire early holiday decorators.
Chenoweth, with several credits in film, television and theater, perhaps is best known for originating the role of Glinda in the musical “Wicked.”
HomeGoods noted a survey it sponsored indicated 74% of holiday decorators said that they associate adorning home for the season with joy, but more than half feel decorating before Thanksgiving subjects them to some level of judgment. In fact, 60% said they have received some type of remark about the timing of their holiday decorating. HomeGoods, for its part, is encouraging consumers to jump into the holiday season, so the TJX Cos. banner has created the “Deck the Everything Day” promotion, what it hopes to establish as an annual holiday on November 1.
HomeGoods stores will open one hour early at 8:30 a.m. where possible on November 1 to give shoppers a head start on finding holiday décor at sharp prices. HomeGoods’ Deck The Everything Day Headquarters, a festive, life-size gingerbread house, will pop-up in New York City’s Madison Square Park November 1-2. The pop-up activation will offer decorating ideas, holiday activities and a chance to meet Chenoweth. From November 1-3, consumers can win one of four $500 gift cards by liking and commenting on the sweepstakes post on @HomeGoods Instagram.
HomeGoods already has gotten into the holiday spirit online with a promotion of serveware for Thanksgiving. Although it abandoned e-commerce sales, the site directs shoppers to local stores, and it also has link to to a Harvest presentation on Instagram that already includes a Chenoweth video about Deck the Everything Day, as well as Halloween celebration ideas, cooking demonstrations for Thanksgiving and dining notions for Diwali, an occasion celebrated by members of the Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist faiths.
“With a festive selection of high-quality decor at an incredible value, HomeGoods unlocks limitless decorating possibilities, which is why we created Deck the Everything Day,” said Samantha Kussmann, HomeGoods manager of marketing. “So that everyone can experience the joy that early decorating brings just like how they celebrate their finds when shopping HomeGoods stores.”
Chenoweth added, “For me, the holidays are all about family and creating new memories while cherishing our traditions from the past. One of my favorite holiday rituals is wandering through the aisles of HomeGoods for decorating inspiration. I get so excited that I can’t wait to have my family come over so we can deck the halls, sip hot cocoa and enjoy a magical holiday playlist. That’s why I’m thrilled to partner with HomeGoods to inspire fellow decorators to spread the holiday cheer and embrace the joy of decorating as early as their heart desires.”
