Costco Wholesale Corp. posted net sales of $24.62 billion for the five-week fiscal month of September, up from $22.59 billion for the year-earlier period.
Comparable sales, with the effects of gasoline price and foreign exchange volatility excluded, gained 9.3% in the United States, 6.3% in Canada and 9.6% in other international markets for an overall company gain of 8.9%. E-commerce comparable sales advanced 22.9%.
In a conference call, Costco stated U.S. comp traffic gained 7.6%. Top performing regions in the U.S. were the Northeast, the Southeast and Texas. Non-foods comps were up in the low teens with jewelry, gift cards and home furnishings being the strongest segments. Food and Sundries comps increased in the high single digits while fresh food comps increased in the low double digits.
