Google is launching an off-to-college tour promotion featuring an advanced popup exhibit to bring attention to its Lens visual search tool.
Characterized by the company as a first-of-its-kind experience, the “Shop with Google” popup will become a place where the company can inform students about working with Google Lens.
Google noted, in a recent survey conducted with market researcher Ipsos, more than half of Gen Z shoppers stated finding something suiting a personal style is the most important factor when shopping for back-to-school items. To that end, consumers can use Lens to take a smart device snapshot of an item then employ the visual search tool to track down similar products.
On August 22, the tour will wind its way to four college campuses across the United States, with stops at The University of Miami, Howard University, George Washington University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The popup presentation will encourage students to use Lens as a means of discovering trending products across designations such as dorm decor, class supplies and style essentials from brands including Away, Dyson, Google Chromebook, Pottery Barn Teen and The North Face. In addition, Google will offer popup visitors the chance to check out interactive games, giveaways and exclusive merchandise.
“Technology is making back-to-school shopping easier and more fun than ever,” said Stephanie Horton, Google’s senior director of global consumer marketing and commerce. “We’re thrilled to be bringing some of that technology to life for students this month with a campus tour. Google Lens makes it easy to shop the world around you, so, now, finding the perfect dorm room decor and classroom essentials is as simple as snapping a photo on your phone,”
