Dollar General Corp. is reconfiguring its store operations and development functions, assigningexecutives to lead the functions as it examines growth opportunities.
Steve Deckard, the company’s executive vice president of store operations and development, has accepted a new role: executive vice president of strategy and development, focused on the expansion of Dollar General’s national footprint, corporate wide process improvement and leadership of its strategic initiatives. In a corresponding management move, the company promoted Tracey Herrmann to executive vice president of store operations.
Before undertaking his previous operations and development position, Deckard oversaw DG’s operations team including Dollar General retail stores, Mi Súper Dollar General in Mexico, corporate store operations, asset protection and real estate after leading international expansion into Mexico and strategic initiatives including pOpshelf, the company stated.
Most recently, Herrmann served as senior vice president of store operations, leading three divisions of DG stores in the southeast. Previously, she oversaw strategy and operations for the company’s pOpshelf stores as senior vice president of channel innovation, and she has served in multiple senior leadership roles in merchandising, pricing and operations, according to Dollar General.
In a recent note on the retailer, a Morgan Stanley analyst said Dollar General’s lower-income consumer continues to be pressured by economic uncertainty. The analyst added the company’s share price is undervalued when considering the advantages its store base and distribution network offer, particularly in rural markets, suggesting those are factors it can leverage.
