Crate & Barrel, CB2 Showcasing Designer Initiatives

Posted In: Retail Articles

Chef and cookbook author Gaby Dalkin is collaborating with Crate & Barrel on a new kitchen and entertaining collection inspired by her California cooking style and relaxed approach to entertaining.

As Crate & Barrel unveils its new collaboration, sibling retailer CB2 is formally introducing its designer collective, the people behind the brand’s highly curated selection of core designs.

The Gaby Dalkin for Crate & Barrel collection (pictured above)  includes more than 50 pieces of kitchenware, serveware, glassware and related items sourced from global artisans, Crate & Barrel noted. Featured items range from ceramic mixing bowls to multipurpose appetizer boards with containers for toppings and dips. The collection’s glassware from Mexico and ceramics from Portugal mix and match on a tablescape.

Dalkin, who also operates the “What’s Gaby Cooking” and Dalkin & Co websites, developed the collection based on a West Coast indoor-outdoor sensibility as realized in her handmade approach to cooking, Crate & Barrel indicated. Dalkin’s approach to simple cooking and entertaining renders oven-to-table dishes, a front-lip oak cutting board and a collection of kitchen utility and organization items easy to use.

“My first-ever kitchen and entertaining collection is a perfect representation of everything that’s guided me through “What’s Gaby Cooking” and everyday hosting with my friends and family,” Dalkin said.. “Together with Crate & Barrel, we dreamed up an elevated but functional collection, translating the warmth and practicality of my own kitchen into pieces that can be used for everyday meals or hosting a party.”

Sebastian Brauer, Crate & Barrel senior vice president of design, added, “We are thrilled to introduce Gaby Dalkin for Crate & Barrel with a special collection that feels effortless and embodies Gaby’s fresh California style. With this collaboration, we are bringing an elevated ease to gathering as well as great pieces for everyday living using natural and sustainable materials.”

The retailer is offering the Gaby Dalkin for Crate & Barrel’s exclusive collection in-stores and online.

Meanwhile, CB2 asserted that its designer collective includes innovative and influential designers across the globe who together embody creativity, innovation and cultural richness.

CB2 pointed out its collections have incorporated input from designer talent for more than a decade. In 2010, it began down the path that led to development of the collective, launching its first collaboration: CB2 x Novogratz. Thereafter, CB2 expanded its initiative leading to formal reissues with the estates of renowned global designers such as Paul McCobb. Other designers working with CB2 include Evan Jerry of Studio Anansi; Ross Cassidy, the Los Angeles-by-way-of-South-Africa designer; and Kara Mann, who creates approachable furnishings even with her subversive, even “goth” aesthetic.

“CB2 has long worked with some of the world’s leading designers, but that’s largely been unsung, so we are incredibly proud to introduce the designer collective and share our well-honed network with our customers,” stated CB2 President Ryan Turf. “Our designers are an integral part of our brand story. The unique perspective and expertise of each designer in the collective allows us to create both visually stunning and deeply meaningful collections, underscoring our dedication to pushing the boundaries of design and offering our customers something truly special.”
