As part of a plan to become more environmentally friendly, The Container Store Group has announced a Closet Clean Out resale initiative that will give customers the chance to resell “gently worn” clothing, shoes and accessories for shopping credit.
The Container Store also is launching a Sustainable Living event, which highlights the company’s eco-friendly products, the company noted..
The ThredUp Resale-as-a-Service Closet Clean Out program supports the Container Store effort. The Resale-as-a-Service functionality allows brands and retailers to deliver customizable, scalable resale opportunities to their customers.
Already, Container Store customers can earn a Container Store eGift Card for sending in their gently worn women’s and kids’ clothing, footwear and accessories. To participate, customers pick up a ThredUp Clean Out Kit from any of The Container Store’s 97 retail stores or generate a prepaid shipping label from containerstore.thredup.com, fill any shippable box or bag with apparel, shoes and accessories from any brand in their closets, and ship the package to ThredUp for free. For those items that sell on ThredUp, customers receive an eGIft card that can be used at both Container Store physical locations and online at containerstore.com.
To introduce the program, The Container Store and ThredUp are sponsoring a giveaway on Instagram whereby three winners each will receive a $500 Container Store eGift card and a $500 ThredUp gift card. The giveaway closes May 5 at 11:59 PM central time, and winners will be chosen and notified by May 12.
The Closet Clean Out launch coincides with The Container Store Sustainable Living event. At each store location, the company is highlighting a curated assortment of sustainably sourced products. The Container Store wants to help customers reduce their reliance on single-use plastic and environmentally harmful cleaning products and practices. As part of the Sustainable Living initiative, The Container Store is highlighting products across a variety of categories, including food preservation, hydration, recycling, composting and natural cleaning.
“We at The Container Store believe in the power of organization to transform lives, and as a company, we are committed to a sustainable future for ourselves and our planet,” said Melissa Collins, Container Store chief marketing officer. “We could not be happier with this program, where our customers can give new life to their belongings as they clean out and organize their spaces and be rewarded with Container Store credit in the process. Together, we can slow fashion waste and reduce its impact on our planet.”
