In September, Bloomingdale’s is launching its 150th anniversary celebration, which will feature celebrity events and designer collaborations as well as new social and digital activations.
Bloomingdale’s has been a destination that, across its 150 years, has always innovated the shopping experience, the company maintained. To carry on that tradition as the brand marks its milestone anniversary, Bloomingdale’s will launch an immersive virtual store with Emperia, an e-commerce pioneer, it stated. The futuristic virtual space will go live on September 8, allowing visitors to discover exclusive products, play games and unlock a surprise and delight room.
Bloomingdale’s also will roll out an update to its iconic Big Brown Bag for the anniversary.
On September 9, Bloomingdale’s and Harper’s Bazaar come together in a first-time co-celebration of the retailer’s 150th anniversary and magazine’s global Icons portfolio at an event held at the Bloomingdale’s famous 59th Street flagship location. The fun and festive NYFW cocktail party will incorporate New York City nostalgia, including a surprise entertainer and host style and culture celebrities.
On the same night, Bloomingdale’s and Harper’s Bazaar will take the celebration on the road with mini versions of the New York event at Bloomingdale’s across the United States, including top markets Florida, Massachusetts and California. The events will incorporate special experiences for customers that will roll out at brick-and-mortar stores as well as bloomingdales.com, and continue through the 2022 holiday season.
Then, on September 10, all Bloomingdale’s stores will host an anniversary celebration inspired by Saturday’s Generation – a term attributed to Bloomingdale’s clientele in the 1970s – with storewide interactive experiences. Bloomingdales will encourage consumers to participate in the festivities with in-store events, special shopping activations, entertainment and related doings. On September 14, Bloomingdale’s will kick off The Makeup Date via Bloomingdale’s On Screen, a virtual event that will feature fashion director finds and a trend conversation with beauty experts. Also, on September 17, Bloomingdale’s customers can enjoy a curated beauty experience at counter events and offerings, with a Beauty Trends Show in select stores.
Throughout the fall, select Bloomingdale’s stores will host 150th Anniversary celebration events with a line-up of products from leading design partners and brands. They will include immersive pop-up shops, trunk shows and original, shoppable installations.
“Bloomingdale’s has pioneered the modern retail experience for 150 years,” said Tony Spring, chairman and CEO, Bloomingdale’s, in announcing the celebration. “We are a company with a rich heritage and this September, we have so much to celebrate as we look ahead to the future. As we commemorate this milestone, we want to make everyone part of the celebration. Bloomingdale’s will share this occasion with the customers, colleagues, partners and communities who have made us who we are and who are coming with us on the journey into Bloomingdale’s next era.”
