BJ’s Continues Westward Expansion with Semi-Automated Ohio Distribution Center

Posted In: Retail Articles

To accommodate westward growth from its East Coast base, and shortly after announcing the company’s first Kentucky store, BJ’s Wholesale Club has announced that it is building a distribution center in Commercial Point, OH.

The 500,000-square-foot facility will feature what the company called a future-ready solution – this from Swisslog, a provider of warehouse automation and software – that includes automated pallet storage, case-handling equipment and mixed-case pallet building. BJ’s indicated that it expects the new facility to open in early 2027. The DC will serve as a hub to replenish ambient-temperature grocery and general merchandise products, BJ’s pointed out, from a 125-acre site that allows for future expansion.

BJ’s currently operates eight stores in Ohio. BJ’s emphasized that the new DC will expand its supply chain capacity to support a growing operating territory that, since 2019, has reached Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan and Alabama for the first time.

“Our business has grown meaningfully over the years, and we continue to invest in our supply chain to better serve members,” said Krystyna Kostka, BJ’s senior vice president and chief supply chain officer, in announcing the new DC.. “With the opening of this new distribution center, we’ll have the agility to support our clubs more efficiently than ever, ensuring members have the products they need, when and where they expect them, all at unbeatable value.”
