In an initiative to promote its renewed closeout orientation to consumers, Big Lots has announced its biggest extreme bargain Halloween promotion ever, based on its purchase of a well-known national party supply retailer’s overstock originally valued at $11 million.
Big Lots is selling products that are part of the initiative at 50% to 70% less than their original retail prices, the company stated.
The company asserted that the closeout deal adds to its assortment of unique and popular Halloween bargains and positions Big Lots as the nation’s largest discount Halloween retailer heading into fall. Although consumers will find Halloween items from the closeout deal in-store only for a limited time, Big Lots is promoting the initiative on its website, with assortment varying by store.
A survey of U.S. consumers conducted by Big Lots found that 59% of consumers plan to shop for Halloween items this year, with 85% planning to spend the same amount or more compared with 2023. One in five shoppers plan to spend more than $100 on Halloween this year, with a third planning to spend between $50 and $100, Big Lots maintained. Top merchandise categories were candy at 88%, decorations at 85%, pumpkins at 56%, costumes at 36% and party supplies at 30%.
“Our ongoing efforts to find high-demand products at unbeatable prices are accelerating, with new closeout deals and truckloads of bargains arriving at stores every week,” said Bruce Thorn, Big Lots president and CEO, in announcing the Halloween initiative. “This new closeout deal significantly increases our total offering for Halloween, making this our biggest Halloween ever. Big Lots is the must-stop, one-stop destination for the broadest variety of Halloween bargains this season.”
