Big Lots is reemphasizes its closeout product assortment in a series of new value initiatives for its National Bargain Hunting Week promotion, August 12 to 18.
In announcing a new survey of bargain shoppers conducted by Big Lots from July 23 to 24 in partnership with MarketVision Research, the company maintained that 85% of respondents said they bargain shop for the thrill of finding deals, and 62% said they found bargain shopping therapeutic. Some 69% of bargain shoppers said they also bargain shop out of habit. Their top shopped merchandise categories were apparel, at 84%; pantry, at 78%; seasonal, at 78%; home décor at 75%; furniture, at 62%; and electronics, at 60%.
“National Bargain Hunting Week, like Big Lots, celebrates savvy shoppers and the thrill they feel when finding a great deal,” said Bruce Thorn, Big Lots president and CEO. “It’s the perfect time to seize the savings on sought-after products at below-market prices before they sell through.
