Best Buy Applying AI-Enhanced App Upgrade

Posted In: Retail Articles

In a new consumer engagement move, Best Buy is upgrading its app, using AI and other technologies to create more personalized consumer shopping experiences.

The company stated that an important improvement consumers will find evident is better tailoring of what Best Buy offers in terms product and shopping options.

My Best Buy Plus or My Best Buy Total loyalty program members will be able to enjoy personalized and exclusive deals. Plus and Total members can even opt for push notifications to alert them about relevant deals, help them understand all membership benefits and track savings enjoyed when purchasing exclusive offers.

Best Buy spelled out the key features of the enhanced app:
  • A More Personalized Home Screen Powered by AI: The updated app home screen will deliver shopping options based on what customers have explored and purchased in the past so that each user’s home screen will look different based on personal preferences as well as factors such as shopping history and membership status. App users can also check installation scheduling for appliances that require it, get recommendations on products and services, including what is happening with favorite brands, and connect with Best Buy employees for shopping help.
  • Discover a World of Possibilities: Best Buy has incorporated a new app tab that encourages shoppers to explore what the company is offering and provides recommendations, including new and favorite products as well as seasonal and holiday assortments. The tab brings together features such as Best Buy Drops, which gives customers a chance to access limited-time deals, and Yes, Best Buy Sells That, which connects shoppers to products and categories they had no idea Best Buy carries, including indoor smokers, power washers, cold therapy gear and outdoor solar equipment. In addition, a new Shop with Videos experience delivers personalized streaming content.
  • Leverage Digital Wallets: An option makes completing purchases faster and easier; an app wallet securely stores payment information for easy purchasing and offers a view on reward points, purchase history, receipt preferences and related information. Best Buy plans to launch a feature shortly that will let app users check in at stores, use membership benefits and access rewards through a single QR code, while, down the road, it intends to roll out the ability for consumers to pay with the feature.
  • Personalized Push Notifications and Navigation Bar: App users can opt-in to receive specific and personalized push notifications that will provide an alert when they’ve earned a reward or when it’s about to expire. Users can also get notifications about pre-order dates, for instance, the latest smartphones or tablets, as well as sales on products of interest.
  • Live Track Progress: Best Buy iPhone shoppers can live track progress on the device lock screen and dynamic island. They can use the feature when picking up orders from stores, and soon, it will provide real-time updates on areas of interest to individual shoppers.

“These enhancements to our app are further examples of how we’re continuing to leverage data and technology to personalize and humanize consumer electronics like nobody else can,” said Brian Tilzer, Best Buy chief data, analytics and technology officer, in announcing the app release. “Our customers have unique needs and preferences, and our goal is to inspire discovery of amazing new technology and ensure it truly enriches their lives, all in the most relevant, seamless way possible.”
