Amazon has scheduled Prime Big Deal Days to return October 8-9 with new bargains dropping as often as every five minutes during select periods throughout the event
.As a prelude to the annual pre-holiday sale, Amazon has launched select discounts on travel, Amazon devices, orders on Prime partner GrubHub and merchandise offered by small businesses on its platform, including up to 20% off travel cups from Tally Tumbler, the company noted.
As with other retailers, Amazon has watched consumer spending patterns that focus on everyday needs. The company is promoting Prime Big Deal Days as, among other things, an occasion to stock up on everyday needs such as home storage, pet care and batteries from Amazon Basics.
Although prompting early year-end holiday shopping is a key reason for the event, Amazon is folding in Halloween, as well, with deals on merchandise for the occasion. Amazon already is promoting Halloween deals on its website landing page including seasonal tabletop merchandise, home decor, costumes, makeup and decorations.
The Big Deal Days bargain extravaganza is limited to members of Amazon’s Prime membership program, and Amazon is throwing a spotlight on signing up in time to tap the bargains. The company is offering gift card rewards for consumers who sign up for the company’s Prime Visa or Prime store card during set periods in October.
Given the company’s retail sector presence, Amazon’s Prime deal periods draw a competitive response from major rivals. Target, for one, got out ahead of the Big Deal Days announcement by revealing earlier this week it will run its own member-oriented event, Circle Week, October 6-12.
Amazon reported it also will run Big Deal Days events in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom, as well as, for the first time, Turkey. Prime members in Japan will be able to shop Prime Big Deal Days later in October.
“We’re gearing up for another exciting holiday shopping season, filled with unbeatable deals on beloved brands, seasonal products and popular gifts available exclusively for Prime members,” said Jamil Thani, Amazon vice president of Prime Worldwide. “Exclusive savings events like Prime Big Deal Days combined with unlimited fast, free delivery of 300-plus million products across more than 35 categories year-’round put Prime in a class of its own and make membership a better value than ever before.”
