Amazon has announced plans to hold its biggest-ever training and recruiting event, Career Day, on September 15.
The company expects to hire for more than 40,000 corporate and tech roles across 220-plus locations in the United States, as well as tens of thousands of hourly positions. Amazon designed the event to support all job seekers, it stated, whether they are looking for a new job or hoping to transition to a different career altogether at Amazon or another company. Attendees can participate in one of more than 20,000 personalized career-coaching sessions with an Amazon recruiter. The company also is offering thousands of 1-on-1 career-coaching sessions for those of its employees looking to advance their careers at the company or elsewhere.
New York Times best-selling authors David Epstein and Carla Harris will provide candid advice on how job seekers can start, build or transition their careers.
“We’re working hard every day to be the best place for people to have satisfying and fulfilling long-term careers,” said Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, in announcing the event. “Amazon continues to grow quickly and relentlessly invent across many areas, and we’re hoping that Career Day gives both job seekers and current Amazon employees the support they need to learn new skills or reimagine their careers at Amazon or elsewhere.”
In an additional announcement, Amazon noted that it would launch a Career Center as well as two delivery stations, in the Hampton, VA area.
The Amazon Career Center, located at 1989 South Military Highway in Chesapeake, will serve as a hiring and orientations hub for company facilities in Chesapeake, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hampton and Virginia Beach.
The delivery stations in the Hampton Roads area will consist of a 165,000 square foot facility at 1400 Sewells Point Road in Norfolk and a 111,600 square foot facility at 223 West Mercury Blvd. in Hampton.
Amazon also plans to open delivery stations in Hanover and Baltimore, MD. A 72,000 square foot facility at 2100 Van Deman St. will be the first delivery station in Baltimore city. The 194,000 square foot facility at 7226 Preston Gateway Dr. becomes the company’s third delivery station in Hanover.
