Even as it opens three new facilities in the state, including a Pontiac robotics fulfillment center, Amazon announced that it would launch its first mid-Michigan fulfillment center and three additional operations facilities that will support customers in the metro Detroit and the Grand Rapids regions.
When it opens in 2022, the new Michigan Delta Charter Township fulfillment center, located in Eaton County, will be Amazon’s eighth in the state. It will encompass more than one million square feet, allowing employees to pick, pack and ship larger items to customers, including bulk paper goods, sports equipment, patio furniture and larger home goods and electronics, Amazon stated.
A new west Michigan sort center and a new delivery station will open in Gaines Township during 2022 and 2023, respectively, supporting Amazon’s middle mile and last-mile delivery capabilities and increasing delivery efficiency for customers in southwest Michigan. The new metro Detroit Delivery Station will open during 2022 and become Amazon’s in the sixth Motor City environs.
The new Pontiac Robotics fulfillment center, an 823,000 square foot operation in Oakland County, will employ more than 1,200 employees working in a technologically advanced environment to pick, pack and ship customer orders such as books, laptops, and beauty products, Amazon stated.
