To support an expansion in the southeastern United States, Aldi will open a 564,000 square foot regional distribution center in Loxley, AL later this year.
With a February 10 opening, Aldi will begin operations in its 38th state as a new location opens in Lafayette, LA. Aldi plans to open two additional Gulf Coast stores in early March, along with 20 additional stores in the Southeast by this year’s end. When completed, the new DC will serve as many as 100 new stores in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle.
Aldi has opened more than 1,000 new stores across the U.S. over the past decade, and the company pointed out that it has plans to open about 150 new stores in 2021, remaining on track to become the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by store count this year. Currently, it operates more than 2,100 stores.
Aldi plans also call for increasing access to convenient online shopping options including expansion of curbside pickup to 1,500 stores from 1,200 by year’s end.
“There is nothing like watching shoppers discover Aldi for the first time,” said Jason Hart, CEO, Aldi U.S., in announcing the DC add and plans for the Southeast. “There’s a moment of surprise when they realize just how much they can save by shopping with us. We can’t wait to share that experience with more customers as we add new stores across the Southeast.”
