Stanley is recalling about 2.6 million of its double-wall travel mugs because of a potential burn hazard related to the mug lids.
The lid threads on the recalled Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs could shrink if exposed to excessive heat, possibly causing the lid to come off and “posing a burn hazard,” according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
Stanley indicated it has received 91 reports globally of the lids coming off, with 38 people burned and 11 receiving medical attention as a result, the CPSC said.
The recall involves all Switchback mugs (12 and 16 ounces) and Trigger Action mugs (12, 16 and 20 ounces) sold in the United States at such major retailers as Amazon, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Walmart and Target, priced between $20 and $50, from June 2016 through this December 2024.
Stanley, in a statement, said, “We are voluntarily recalling the (specified) Switchback and Trigger Travel Mugs in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). We ask that all customers in possession of either product immediately stop use and reach out to Stanley 1913 for a free replacement lid. At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life.”
