Drinkmate in 2024 celebrates the 10th anniversary of its breakthrough introduction of the first home countertop system for carbonating any beverage.
Since its launch by CEO Douglas Wang in 2014, Drinkmate has become a global leader in the high-growth home beverage carbonating category. The brand is poised to surge into its next decade with an expanding range of innovations for home and commercial use, expanding marketing support and an expanding international presence.
Wang’s engineering and business background, including positions with automotive and other industries, provided the foundation of high quality, precision and innovation on which he developed the original Drinkmate beverage carbonating system.
Wang’s vision to revolutionize home beverage consumption was inspired by consumer interest in creating their own sparkling beverages, something existing home soda makers couldn’t do at the time. This led to the development of Drinkmate OmniFizz technology, a unique process designed to carbonate water, juices, teas and cocktails. That, in turn, opened endless possibilities by creating customized sparkling beverages among consumers eager to explore new flavors and hydration options.

Drinkmate recently introduced the first-of-its-kind portable carbonator: the Drinkmate Spritzer. The Spritzer offers the same multi-beverage carbonating function of the company’s original OmniFizz countertop unit (pictured top) in a convenient, handheld design. The new model enables on-the-go carbonation through its patented Fizz infuser technology, which uses smaller sizes of the company’s CO2 cartridges. Drinkmate is positioning the Spritzer as a model capable of opening additional channels of distribution for the company, including sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailers.
Another breakthrough from the company is the new stainless steel Drinkmate LUX model, which joins the original countertop beverage carbonators offered in a variety of colors (Classic White, Matte Black, Royal Red and Arctic Blue). The new stainless steel model is positioned as a competitively priced option in the category for upscale brick-and-mortar retailers, including gourmet and specialty stores.
Drinkmate also offers a line of premium Italian-produced syrups in eight flavors and will soon be introducing several new flavors to the organic, low-calorie, all-natural syrup line.

Drinkmate has reinforced its market presence and product offerings through strategic partnerships with leading brands in the beverage industry. In the spirits industry, Drinkmate’s collaboration with Johnnie Walker enabled top bartenders throughout the world to create sparkling versions of their favorite whisky cocktails in the World Class Global Bartender Finals. Drinkmate has also partnered with the Coca-Cola Company, collaborating with Smartwater and Vitaminwater to carbonate flavored water enhancers.

Drinkmate also announced their inaugural sponsorship of the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic, a premier event on the PGA Tour. According to Mark Buss, Drinkmate chief commercial officer, this was an important partnership in underscoring Drinkmate’s commitment to supporting their local community of Detroit and investing in an event that brings national attention to the region.

Already a longstanding participant in The Inspired Home Show to reach key retail decision-makers, Drinkmate recently ventured into the commercial hospitality market by exhibiting at the 2024 National Restaurant Show. This participation, Wang said, showcases Drinkmate’s commitment to developing innovative solutions for restaurants and bars to serve unique, customizable sparkling beverages. He expects Drinkmate’s growing presence in the hospitality market to support the company’s retail business by widening consumer awareness of the convenience and versatility of its carbonating products.
As it diversifies channels and expands its market position in the Americas, Drinkmate is eyeing wider worldwide distribution. Drinkmate has established a robust international business in Japan in partnership with Synergy Trading Corporation, which provides CO2 filling services for Drinkmate carbonating cylinders. Drinkmate has captured a 35% market share in the home beverage carbonation category in Japan, primarily in brick-and-mortar stores, including Costco Japan. Drinkmate’s global expansion has accelerated in recent years with successful entries in Australia at brick-and-mortar stores and on e-commerce sites and, most recently, Europe through major German retailer Kaufland for a Q4 holiday promotion.
