The Container Store has joined the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership promoting green energy use.
In announcing the move, Container Store stated that it is using more than 57 million kilowatt-hours of green power annually, equal to its electricity use. The retailer pointed out that its use of green power is part of an effort to lead the transition to a cleaner energy future.
As part of Container Store’s commitment and effort, all of its stores, distribution centers and corporate office power is offset by an investment in 100% renewable energy, powered by wind, one of the cleanest power sources.
“The Container Store is passionate about the environment and is fully committed to reducing the overall footprint of our operations,” stated president and CEO, Satish Malhotra. “We are proud to join the EPA’s Green Power Partnership. Using green power helps further reduce our organization’s emissions footprint.”
As part of its ongoing environmental efforts, Container Store announced in August that it had partnered with Meredith Corp.’s Real Simple brand and The Clorox Co. to develop the Real Simple Cleaning Collection, a new line of EPA Safer Choice Certified products. In June, Container Store announced that it had appointed Ivet Taneva senior director of environmental, social and governance. Her role, the retailer pointed out, is to develop and lead a multi-prong ESG strategy for Container Store. Prior to her Container Store hire, Taneva had led the development and execution of Alcon’s global environmental sustainability strategy, global regulatory compliance program and developed sustainability standards for all levels of the organization.
