Illycaffè announced two new espresso machines that are compatible with its compostable E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) single-serve pods aimed at minimizing environmental impact.
The E.S.E. pods are made with Illy’s blend of 100% Arabica coffee beans in filter paper designed to preserve the blend’s aroma. The pods are industrially compostable as part of Illy’s #ONEMAKESTHEDIFFERENCE initiative directed at reducing plastic in product production and shipping by 175 tons a year and its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2033.
E.S.E. pods retail for $13.99 ($14.99 decaf) for an 18-count at illy.com and select retailers.
The new X1 Anniversary E.S.E. & Ground Machine (pictured top) offers the ability to brew with either traditional ground coffee or the E.S.E. pods using an eco-mode of fast-heating technology for quick brewing for energy savings and convenience to produce café-quality espresso, the company said. The machine was designed with the classic Illy look in mind, with a stainless-steel body, a backlit water tank, an ergonomic handle and a vintage 1935 Illy logo behind the temperature gauge.
The X1 Anniversary E.S.E. & Ground Machine is available for $949 in red and black and $999 in stainless silver on illy.com and other fine retailers.
The second new machine, the Illy Easy (ESE) Espresso Machine, was made to provide an elevated experience within a compact design, stated Illy. It was designed for easy, intuitive operation to make a single or lungo espresso shot with the ability to adjust the machine’s temperature and volume setting. The machine also has sustainability-minded features including automatic power-down and compatibility with the E.S.E. pods.
The Illy Easy (ESE) Machine is available in red and black for $249 on illy.com and other fine retailers.
