Amazon Prime Day is returning in July, but the exact dates for the event have yet to be revealed. The 2024 event marks Prime Day’s 10th anniversary.
In touching on fulfillment, Amazon asserted that it hit another milestone last year by delivering to Prime members at the fastest speeds throughout the year.
Amazon asserted that it plans to pack even more savings into this year’s Prime Day. During the promotion, exclusive to members of Amazon’s Prime loyalty program, shoppers will be able to take advantage of deep discounts while enjoying the convenience of fast, free shipping through Prime. In addition, Amazon pointed out that consumers who need to shop for back-to-school supplies can shop early and avoid the lines associated with such educational purchasing.
A potential reason Amazon is withholding the exact dates of Prime Day is the likelihood that competing retailers will hold their own promotional events at around the same time and probably earlier in July, as has occurred over the past few years.
Although Prime Day has become a fixture in the shopping calendar, consultant and market researcher Kearney characterized last year’s consumer response as “tepid.” Market researcher Numerator, which tracked purchase data and surveyed verified buyers, stated that 2023 Prime Day outpaced the event held the year before in household penetration, at 36%, orders per household, at 3.1, spend per household, at $180.82, and order size, at 1.9 units. However, compared to the 2022 event, Prime Day 2023 saw lower spend in order size, at $58.41 versus $60.73, and lower spend per unit, at $31.27 versus $32.71. Despite that, Numerator maintained that home goods did especially well during Prime Day 2023 as a top-selling category with fashion and beauty.
This year, Amazon will run Prime Day promotions in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the and the United Kingdom in addition to the United States.
